Multiple Users & Alexa Voice Recognition

Queue Ball can use Alexa Voice ID to recognize different people in your household, allowing you to personalize features such as My Music for each person. Once set up, two people can make the exact same request and Queue Ball can respond based on who is speaking. If Alexa does not recognize the person speaking, Queue Ball simply uses the default user.

What Is My Music?

My Music gives users a convenient shortcut to get their preferred music playing. For JRiver, you can choose any playlist or Smartlist and make it that person's My Music.

Once it is set up, they can simply say “Alexa, ask Queue Ball to play my music” or “Alexa, ask Queue Ball to shuffle my music.” You might choose a large favorites Smartlist for yourself while someone else chooses an entirely different playlist.

Set Up Alexa Voice Recognition

Before Queue Ball can recognize different people, each person needs their own Alexa profile and Voice ID. If you are setting up another person, add them to your Alexa family first, then set up their Voice ID and make sure Personalize Skills is enabled for them.

Amazon maintains the instructions for these features, so use their current guides and complete both steps for each person you want Queue Ball to recognize.

Add Another User

  1. Open your Queue Ball Account and enter the person's name under Add User.
  2. Have that person make a Queue Ball request using their own voice. “Alexa, ask Queue Ball for help” is an easy one to use.
  3. Refresh your Queue Ball Account. A new entry should appear under Alexa Voice Recognition, such as Recognized Voice #2 · Voice CADC13 · Needs assignment. The Last recognized time can help confirm that this is the person who just spoke.
  4. Expand the recognized voice, select the person's name under Use profile, and choose Assign Voice.
  5. Expand that person's settings and choose the JRiver playlist or Smartlist they want to use as My Music, then save it.

Managing Users and Recognized Voices

The Alexa Voice Recognition section of your Queue Ball account shows the voices Alexa has recognized and which user each voice is assigned to. New voices show Needs assignment until you assign them. Expand a voice to change its assignment or choose Forget Voice.

One user is designated as the default user. If Alexa does not recognize who is speaking, Queue Ball uses that person's settings instead. You can change the default user at any time from your Queue Ball Account. Someone simply visiting your home will not normally be added as a recognized voice; if Alexa does not recognize them through Voice ID, Queue Ball just uses the default user.

Privacy

Queue Ball does not receive or store recordings of your voice. Alexa handles the voice recognition and lets Queue Ball know when it has recognized a particular person. Queue Ball uses that recognition only to match the speaker with the user you assigned in your account. The names shown in Queue Ball are the names you entered yourself, and you can remove a recognized voice at any time with Forget Voice.
