Queue Ball Direct Mode

By default, Queue Ball plays music through the Alexa device that responds to your request. Queue Ball supports two playback destinations: Alexa Mode, also called Echo Mode, which plays audio through Alexa, and Direct Mode, which still uses Alexa for voice control but plays the music through your connected media server's playback system instead.

Direct Mode can also be referred to as Stereo Mode, Desk Mode, Theater Mode, PC Mode, or Local Mode. These are alternate names for the same playback destination, so you can use whichever one feels most natural.

Switching Playback Modes

You can switch between Alexa Mode and Direct Mode at any time. Queue Ball remembers the mode you choose and keeps using it until you change it again.

Alexa, ask Queue Ball to turn on Desk Mode.
Alexa, ask Queue Ball to switch to Echo Mode.

You can also ask Queue Ball which playback mode is currently active.

Using Direct Mode

Once Direct Mode is active, you continue using Queue Ball the same way you normally would. There is no separate set of music commands for Direct Mode.

You can ask Queue Ball to play an artist, album, song, playlist, genre, decade, or any other supported request. The only difference is where the music plays.

Alexa, ask Queue Ball to play the album [ALBUM].
Alexa, ask Queue Ball to shuffle music by [ARTIST].
Alexa, ask Queue Ball to play the playlist [PLAYLIST].

In Alexa Mode, those requests play through Alexa. In Direct Mode, they play through your connected media server's playback system.

Normal playback controls continue to work as well, including pause, resume, next, previous, shuffle, volume, mute, and other supported Queue Ball commands.

For the complete command list, visit the Queue Ball Commands page.

Switching Back to Alexa

When you want music to play through Alexa again, just switch back to Echo Mode:

Alexa, ask Queue Ball to switch to Echo Mode.

Queue Ball will continue using Echo Mode until you choose Direct Mode again.
